Very nformative thank you. I was diagnosed diabetic in Feb this year and started taking insulin injections, I have slowly acquired all the symptoms of Metabolic syndrome over the last 7 years and diabetes was the last straw – I had tried so many different ways of eating and my last was just two meals a day and no snacking to find I was just putting more weight on and no-one believing how little I really ate ( also a sign of metabolic syndrome apparently ) then I discovered on the diabetic forums a way of eating called low carb high fat and started that in feb – I lost 10kg in three weeks and dropped a dress size ! BUT I cut out ALL carb sources made from wheat, oats, rice and potatoes etc and I began to walk every where. If I needed something from the shop I walked – I am not a sports person it will not last – it never has & I needed something I can continue for the rest of my life – I also knew I needed to make a mental as well as physical life change if I wanted to continue living a healthy life. There is no one single food that will make anyone loose weight – if you read up all the forums and information its up to you to find out what works for you. I have found I need to eat less than 30g per day of carbohydrates and am now beginning to reduce my insulin as my blood sugars are now stable and dropping very low, my fatty liver syndrome is reversing to the point that my liver counts are normal for three counts and virtually normal on the other two, I am still loosing weight and have lost at least 15 cm from my chest and waist and 10cm from my stomach as well as fat burning from my back, arms, legs and buttocks. The only mistake I’ve made so far is to find when I plateaued I was eating too much protein ( that was being turned into sugar and fat by my body) and not enough fat. So I increased my fat reduced my protein and a week later 2 cm more was gone !!! For those who state they can’t eat one certain food – don’t eat it – use others and don’t think for one minute if you eat all of the above but continue to consume high portions of carbohydrate it will work – it won’t work!! The body will always take carb over fat as it’s easier to work with and then the high fat just gets deposited in the body as fat…… If you don’t feed your body carbs ( which by the way is the only macro nutrient the body does not need to survive..) it has to burn the fat that’s there and then you loose weight. Look at the fat phobia of the last 20/25 years and how all the products have come in the market for low fat – then look at the replacement of sugar that’s put in and the subsequent problem of fat people …….as with anything. Do this with care and of your own choice but don’t keep looking for a miracle there isn’t one – it’s only in you to change how you view food and what you eat.

Hi Barbara, I have eaten pumpkin pies, and even substituted almond milk in the recipe. As I age, I find that sugar bothers me more and more, and that eating pumpkin seeds, with their high zinc and magnesium is a infrequent event. This is because I have fine-tuned my diet to have great digestion with the best proteins, and low glycemic high fiber vegetables, that keep me satisfied.
Eating proteins the size of my palm and a high percentage of vegetables, helps not compact my digested foods, leading to better digestion.

I found that too much caffeine may cause non fatal heart attacks. I heard that olive oil should turn solid in the refrigerator if it is actually extra virgin. Fish oil? I eat the real thing. Hope this helps

What Brand of Olive oil? I heard on Rachael Ray, or Doctor Oz, that it should turn solid, which means it is a quality olive oil. when put in the refrigerator (Sorry Patric)
My Eye Doctor recommended Nordic Naturals, and they come in 1000 mg strength. 500 mg each of EPA and DHA Personally I eat fish every day. Cold water fish usually, so I take no omega 3’s

This is all based on eating other quercetins, like onions, and apples and one or two apricots (they do a job on me) Pumpkin seeds are added as necessary for cramping or pain, and I used to eat these by the bag fulls, and pared it down to 1-2 teaspoons. The anti-inflammatories like onions, and other allacin containing compounds like garlic help pain disappear, and so do dried cherries which are highly beneficial for all.
So the key is getting that nice soft s-curve in your poop like Doctor Oz says, and I can do it most times of the month, and yet when the monthly cycle kicks in (yes even though there are no menses) Hunger goes up, it takes a few days to get back to that. Men I believe, don’t have the same hormone issues till they are past 70? When testosterone starts dropping.

I have always had a problem with my weight. After always trying to eat more veggies and fruit, I’d always go back to junk food. Finally decided to Eat to Live, by Fuhrman MD., saw on Dr. Oz. actually, only been on it a week. This way of eating is the change I need. Like he says in his book, “it’s a commitment.” If I say, “I’ll try it,” I’ve already agreed to fail, the book says. I agree! I’m so tired of being fat. It has just started to cause health problems. Glad the Eat to Live book helps you. For me, I found that I am a low carb and that fish and eggs are my best foods. (Pathway Fit) It was hard adhering to these proteins, because I love steak. Course I gave that up long time ago, and my elbow pain ceased. Keeping the colon clean was my answer to not having pain. So, I found another test *** that said I could add turkey. The Pathway Fit also told me which “zone” I worked best with and of course it was the 30/40/30 for low carb. 75% of other people need more low glycemic high fiber carbs more like at 20/60/20. Which is good to know for weight loss/maintenance.

I forgot to tell you, I am a Blood Type A. I eat B vitamin foods like Ezekiel Cereal with Cheerios for breakfast with fruit. Then a palm sized portion of Salmon and a romaine salad with Ceasar Dressing (has anchovies) or Tuna Fish with celery and onions on Ryvita crackers. Then Trout or Red Snapper for dinner with some asparagus. Celery, Salmon, Trout and asparagus have riboflavins. Onions have anti inflammatory properties. My Blood Type B friend eats eggs with fruit OR Homemade turkey sausage with butternut squash and spinach OR Gluten Free pancakes for breakfast. Lunch is a salad of romaine with a protein best for her (listed on the dinner list) and sweet potato chips. Dinner is a protein of lamb, fish, grass fed beef or turkey and some vegetables with a sweet potato or a little rice. She digests well and poops 2-4 times a day. I only do 1-2 which is why I need more grains, and more soluble fiber, like celery asparagus stalks, and peas. We both eat squash and both have great colon health, less stiffness and better immunity, and have both lowered our A1C’s

When you add fats to your diet, try to use olive oil for frying or baking. I even saute in olive oil. I found when cooking olive oil heats fast, and smokes, except when you cook slowly at lower medium heat it works best. The other oil I have tried is walnut oil. Fats from nuts are a good source of fat, except peanuts and peanut butter are only good for Blood Type A. In all other blood types they cause weight gain and metabolism slow down. I even fry my eggs in olive oil. Sometimes I throw in a mono-unsaturated avocado, which has some vitamin E properties, and is a neutral for all people.

A quick idea. If you are having trouble regulating your sugar, put 1-2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar “with the mother” (found on the shelf with regular vinegar) in 8 oz of water and drink before each meal. It really helps control your sugar. If you don’t have a problem with sugar put a tablespoon of honey in it and drink it every day. ACV is great for everyone.

Hi Babs, I found that wheat toast for breakfast has a higher glycemic level than eating a sugared something. I have cut out wheat everything and heard that cinnamon will help control your sugar. Vinegar can irritate the esophagus for older adults, and removing pickled things from your diet, can save you from stomach cancer.

It is only related to fat levels. The only effect of having a higher level is more fat loss, less fat accumulation. Which, if you think about it, would mean less chance of clogged arteries by extension. So, no, your husbands diet sounds very healthy from what you’ve mentioned, and you’ve either got the wrong item, or your doctor is simply mistaken. Also, you should realize that Adiponectin level vary throughout the day, depending on a number of factors such as what was eaten, and how long between meals it has been. I seriously doubt whatever test your husbands doctor did, if it was indeed for Adiponectin, was even accurate, as it was bound to be far different upon first waking up in the morning, compared to what it would be right after he ate. I certainly wouldn’t be concerned, as none of the literature that is available that I’ve ever come across in years of reading about this item has ever indicated such results as you mentioned as a result of having a higher level of Adiponectin than normal. Most people consider that a benefit, and one they’d love to be able to attain.

My weight gain primarily comes from blood pressure pills, beta blockers (10 lbs) which I switched to calcium channel blockers, 15 lbs in 18 months. Also post menopausal and have a inflammatory mast cell disorder which causes flushing. Studies have found that avocado oil is superior to coconut and olive oil in monosaturated fats. Walnuts and seeds are superior to peanuts, and soybeans have been found to be contraindicated and should be avoided. Quercetin is a great ANTI-INFLAMMATORY and I take a supplement. Unfortunately, short of liposuction, I cannot lose weight no matter how much I exercise or eat healthy. I have tried berberine and bilberry but have had interactions with my blood pressure medication. There is a 4th generation calcium channel blocker used in Japan and India that improves adioponectin, thus improving insulin resistance and improving glucose metabolism which causes weight loss but is not FDA approved. I found a site to order w/a doctor’s prescription.

So what is the address to the site to order the adiopectin? Have you ever heard of Meratrim? Japan is doing a lot of research on adiopectin. Not for weight loss but increased health benifits. Doing research on people over 100. They seem to have higher adiopectin in common.
